Göran Andersson

Full Professor, ETH Zürich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) 

Göran Andersson obtained his M.S. (1975) and Ph.D. (1980) degrees from University of Lund, Sweden. In 1980 he joined ASEA’s, now ABB’s, HVDC division in Ludvika, Sweden, and in 1986 he was appointed full professor in electric power systems at KTH (Royal Institute of Technology), Stockholm, Sweden. Since 2000 he is full professor in electric power systems at ETH Zürich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology). His research interests include power system dynamics, control and operation, power markets, and future energy systems. 

Göran Andersson is Fellow of IEEE, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences, and foreign member of the US National Academy of Engineering. He was the recipient of the 2007 IEEE PES Outstanding Power Educator Award, the 2010 George Montefiore International Award 2010, and the 2016 IEEE PES Prabha S. Kundur Power System Dynamics and Control Award.

Ângelo Sarmento

Board Member, EDP Distribuição 

Ângelo Sarmento has been Executive Board Member in EDP Distribuição since 2006. He joined to EDP Group in 1983. 

He graduated from the Instituto Superior Técnico with an Electrical Engineering degree and holds a Program for High Executive on Business Administration from AESE 

Under his leadership, EDP Distibuição has been conducting several initiatives to increase operational efficiency of the company, to improve the Quality of Service and the Grid Automation, to implement an asset management model and to deploy the innovative grids of the future. 

He has also been a Board Member in EDP Inovação and in Hidrocantábrico Distribución Eléctrica. 

He has been a member of DSO Committee in EURELECTRIC and a member of Directing Committee of CIRED.

Maria João Tavares

Senior Specialist, EDP Produção (Regulation and Markets) 

Maria João Tavares was born in Porto, Portugal. She is graduated in Applied Mathematics from Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto and has an MSc in Computational Methods in Sciences and Engineering from Faculdades de Ciências e de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto. 

Maria João joined EDP in 1996 and integrated the Information Systems area in the Hydric Engineering Division of Hidrorumo (EDP), moving in 2003 into the Prospective Studies area in the Strategic Planning and Control Division of EDP Produção. Since July 2013, she is working in the Studies and Energy Management in Regulation and Markets Direction of EDP Produção, as Senior Specialist. During the past several years, she has been developing mathematical models for optimization and simulation hydro and thermal generating systems, doing technical-economical evaluations and power systems management. Her current interests include optimization, electricity market models and applications, and power system planning.

Paulo Pinto

Senior engineer, EDP Produção (Equipment Engineering, Power Systems & Automation) 

Paulo Pinto, 50 years old, is a senior engineer in the EDP Produção. Presently working in the Division of Studies and Equipment Engineering – Power Systems and Automation. In the past 15 years he has been responsible for the Coordination of strategic middle-scale projects in Distributed Control Systems of EDP Thermal, Hydro and Wind Power Plants and he has been responsible for the implementation of the Supervision Control Center of EDP Renewables Wind Power Plants in Portugal and Spain. 

Recently he has been responsible for the Project Management of several Solar Photovoltaic Systems in EDP Produção Power Plants premises including the innovative Pilot Project of Alto Rabagão Dam Floating PV. 

Paulo holds a pre-Bologna degree in Electrical Engineering – Power Systems from Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Lisboa, 1990, post graduated in Project Management in Portuguese Catholic University and holds since 2005 the Project Management Professional (PMP) credentials from the Project Management Institute.
