Senior Manager, EDP España (Generation Business Unit)
Pablo J. Alvarez Vigil is currently responsible for performance analysis in the Generation Business Unit of EDP España.
With a Mining Engineering Master for the ETSIMO of Oviedo University, 1992, has developed his career around several areas in the domain of the energy, including a short period as a coal mine engineer, as control process engineer in the Oil&Gas industry at the Coruña Refinery of Repsol, and finally in the electricity industry at EDP España (former Hidroeléctrica del Cantábrico).
At EDP España, he initially developed different roles in the areas of markets and regulation, and finally as responsible for Energy and Business Planning Department. Seeking for new technical challenges, he returned in 2007 to the Generation business, initially as responsible for operation of environmental projects including commissioning and commercial operation of desulphurization and low-NOx burners.
Since 2010, is responsible for data acquisition, monitoring and analysis of performance for the generation units of EDP Spain, including coal, gas and hydro plants.
Senior Manager, EDP Produção (Optimization and Flexibility)
Rui Vilhena is a Senior Manager and Head of Optimization and Flexibility department at EDP Gestão da Produção.
Born in 1962 in Lisboa holds a pre-Bologna Master’s Degree in Energy form Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa and Engineer degree in Mechanical Engineering – Applied Thermodynamics. Several specialized formations in Management (Programa de Direcção de Empresas – AESE, Manager Course – INSEAD, Project Management – Project Management Institute, etc.).
Invited to join EDP in 1988, Rui Vilhena has worked for several years in Sines and Pego projects (Coal Power Plants), optimization and rehabilitation projects in Tapada do Outeiro (coal power plant), Sines, Barreiro, Carregado, Setúbal, Alto Mira and Tunes (thermal plants). Technical advisor for the Energy Audit for the Power Production Assets of EDA (Electricidade dos Açores), Technical Manager of Soporgen Cogeneration Plant, responsible for the studies and technical specifications of several plants (Fluidized bed biomass plants, Coal Gasification plants, tri-generation plants – electricity, heat and cold, etc). Participation in a Biomass Gasification Plant Project in Italy
Has a Senior Manager, his departments where responsible for the technical specifications of Ribatejo and Lares CCGT’s, pre-works for Soyo CCGT Power Plant (Angola), pre-works for Coke Gasification CCGT Power Plants (Venezuela) and several Plant Optimization Project in Power Plants.
Since 2014, with his team, has been developing the application of several concepts related with Asset Management using Big Data and Data Analytics to the EDP Gestão da Produção Power Plants (thermal and Hydro).
Deputy Director for Energy Markets, EDP S.A. (UNGE)
Berto Martins is currently Deputy Director for Energy Markets at EDP S.A.
He is 50 years old, born and raised in Lisbon but with an academic degree completed at the Oporto University in 1990.
In this same year he joined EDP to work at the National Dispatch and after some years in this function, he moved to the System Optimization and Commercial Operations until 2002, when he went to EDP’s team to prepare the liberalization process in Portugal.
The Energy Markets Division is responsible for the management of EDP´s Generation portfolio in the Iberian Market. These tasks include the Short/Medium Term Planning, Outages coordination and bidding strategy on the energy and ancillary services markets.
He is also responsible for the real-time Dispatch and coordination with the Portuguese System Operator (REN).
Senior manager, EDP Produção (Electrical and Automation Engineering)
Mário Silva holds a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1986 from the Engineering School of Porto University.
Mário joined EDP in 1981 and has been working since 1989 in the design, specification and construction supervision of hydroelectric installations. His experience abroad includes the supervision of the electrical engineering project of the Lajeado hydroelectric plant (Brazil), and the coordination of EDP Brazil's engineering supervision team for the Peixe Angical hydroelectric power plant project.
Since 2007, he is the Head of Electrical and Automation Engineering Area of EDP Produção.
